Brookside Equestrian was once part of a 1,800 acre ranch owned by The Sentous Family from the late 1800’s until 1935 when the parcel was reduced to 80 acres and sold to wealthy, flamboyant businessman, JP Winnett. Mr. Winnett, among other successful ventures, co-founded Bullock’s chain of department stores.
Hosting big parties and special events (such as the annual fox hunts), the ranch with its white painted fences, masonry fronted barn, and acres of lush landscape was truly a beautiful showplace. Ranch activities were frequently featured in the Los Angeles Times society section between 1939 and 1956.
Brookside Equestrian was recently restored to its original 1930's splendor. It was the filming location of several movies, most notably the original National Velvet. Rolling green lawns, white picket fences, grand old oak trees, flora updated regularly and horses under saddle bring to mind the tranquility of times past. The landscaping and grounds are maintained to the highest standard all year long.
